Our Inspiring Journey

Embarking on a journey of adventure and community back in 1975, the vision of four passionate individuals, Geoff Smith, Ernie Dolby, Tony Whitfield, and Brian Hicks led to the establishment of 1st Bistre Scout Group. Determined to create a space for the young people of Buckley, they held a public meeting at Bistre V.P. School, culminating in the formation of a committee and the appointment of dedicated leaders.

The 6th of October, 1975, marked a milestone in our history. Our very first meeting took place, the spark that ignited the spirit of the 1st Bistre Scout Group. Our initial gatherings were held at Bistre Infant School, a temporary home for our thriving community, but we yearned for a dedicated space.

Our ambitions led us to start a building fund in 1976. We turned dreams into bricks and mortar, as construction on our Scout Headquarters began in 1980. After years of anticipation and hard work, we held our first meeting in our new Scout Hut on the 6th of September, 1982. The culmination of our collective effort was celebrated with an official opening by Lord Barry Jones on the 10th of December, 1982.

From those humble beginnings, our roots have grown deep into the heart of Buckley. Today, we continue to honour the spirit of our founders by fostering a space of inclusivity, adventure, and lifelong learning.

Our history is not just a series of dates and events; it’s the foundation of our community, the spirit of scouting that pushes us forward to this day.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
