1st Bistre Scouts Shine in Climate Action Discussions: A Moment of Pride for All
The Scouts at 1st Bistre in Buckley have always stood out for their dedication and enthusiasm. However, their recent venture into the sphere of climate discussions, on Tuesday 17th October 2023, truly makes us beam with pride!
Our dynamic Scouts took the spotlight, engaging with distinguished dignitaries and leaving a lasting impression on the broader community.
They meticulously researched various climate topics and approached their local councillors and politicians with well-considered questions.
It wasn’t just another Q&A session, but a lively dialogue between the future of Flintshire and those shaping its present. Topics spanned from sustainable energy sources and afforestation to curbing local pollution and the impact of industrial activities on the environment.

Words from the Leaders
Caergwrle Councillor David Healey praised our Scouts, remarking,
“Being part of the event and addressing the 1st Bistre Scouts’ questions was a pleasure. They’re an intelligent and involved group, and their thoughtful questions were evident. I was particularly struck by the initiatives some Scouts had already undertaken. Knowing such proactive young individuals are aware of the necessary changes gives me hope for our planet.”
Moreover, the Scouts’ passion for climate action caught the attention of Carolyn Thomas, Member of the Senedd for North Wales, who participated virtually from Cardiff. Her words reflected the depth of our Scouts’ commitment:
“I was truly impressed by the Scouts’ research depth and the diversity of their questions. It was heartening to witness the next generation addressing the pressing issues we face in the climate and ecological crisis and being actively involved.”
Adding his voice, Penyffordd Councillor Alasdair Ibbotson, chair of Flintshire’s Climate Change Committee, mentioned,
“It was a pleasure to welcome 1st Bistre Scouts and to take their questions. Young people deserve to have their voice heard at County Hall. I know that Bistre Scouts will carry on working hard in our community, and I know everyone enjoyed hearing about what they’re doing to make positive changes happen.”
Parents, these events aren’t one-offs. As members of 1st Bistre, your children gain unparalleled opportunities to lead conversations, connect with key figures, and be part of initiatives that have a broader societal impact. It’s experiences like these that differentiate the Scouts of 1st Bistre.
